The Ruins of Gorlan

I seemed to have screwed up some old posts… so if you’ve already seen this review… I’m sorry… but I did like this series and didn’t want to leave it off my page…

The Ruins of Gorlan  by  John Flanagan    description:

HE HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A WARRIOR.

The Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways, have always made him nervous. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now fifteen-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger’s apprentice. What he doesn’t yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing. The exiled Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is gathering his forced for an attack on the kingdom. This time, he will not be denied…

ranger1BOOK 1: The Ruins of Gorlan    4 STARS

Such a fast paced book and I loved the world it was set in… it’s medieval times but in a world with nightmarish creatures, plains that whistle eerily, and a intelligence force that seem a little inhuman to the rest of the world… Then there’s Will at age 15, when they choose their craft, he was turned down to be a knight (just too small) and picked up instead to be a Ranger, both intrigued yet terrified what that may mean he becomes Halt’s apprentice… but what I loved most about this book was that while Will would be considered the main character he isn’t the only one you get to know about… you also get to be there with Horace, a boy that bullied Will as they grew up together and was the one accepted into battle school to be a knight… you get to be there with both of the boys as they learn their new craft and prepare for a world about to be thrown into war… it really was an awesome book and I was surprised when I suddenly hit the ending because I sure wasn’t ready for it to be over, thankfully I already had the next book…
