Rise of the Evening Star

BOOK 1:  Fablehaven  by  Brandon Mull

Rise of the Evening Star   description:

At the end of the school year, Kendra and her brother Seth find themselves racing back to Fablehaven, a refuge for mythical and magical creatures. Grandpa Sorenson, the caretaker, invites three specialists — a potion master, a magical relics collector, and a mystical creature trapper — to help protect the property from the Society of the Evening Star, an ancient organization determined to infiltrate the preserve and steal a hidden artifact of great power. Time is running out. The Evening Star is storming the gates. If the artifact falls into the wrong hands, it could mean the downfall of other preserves and possibly the world. Will Kendra learn to use her fairy gifts in time? Will Seth stay out of trouble?

evening starBOOK 2: Rise of the Evening Star   5 STARS

As great as the first book… and yet maybe a little better… where before we were having to figure out what’s going on, you’re now already in the world of fables and so the story can really focus more on the adventure of it all… which of course means we have to figure out who to trust… who’s trying to sabotage Fablehaven? Also with Kendra, there’s that wonder of what she’s capable of now that she has this fairy gift… it’s all exciting and wonderful and a great mix of fairy tales and mythology and a wonderful edition that keeps you turning the pages as you learn more and more about this world and the people in it… and I think Mull has done a great job of introducing a variety of characters without making it overly convoluted… but there are plenty of twists and turns and it leaves plenty of room for the story to continue on…
